Blocked Ears That Won’t Clear Even When You Try to Pop Them
Share
Trying to clear your ears and nothing happening can be one of the most frustrating things. You’re yawning, swallowing, trying the Valsalva manoeuvre, but your ears still won't clear. You may have even been to the doctor, but nothing is working.
The reason nothing is working is that it isn’t just pressure that needs releasing. It could be that the Eustachian tubes aren’t working properly, which is why trying to force your ears to ‘pop’ doesn’t change the feeling.
You might get a click or a brief release, but it doesn’t last, and the blocked, muffled feeling is still there.
That’s because it isn’t just trapped air. The tube itself isn’t opening and closing the way it should, so the pressure in the ear isn’t being regulated properly. This is known as Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, or ETD.
For some people, it may resolve, however for others it keeps coming back or never clears. At that point, it isn’t just a simple pressure issue. It usually means there’s something behind it that isn’t being addressed.
This is something I go into more in the guide, especially when it comes to understanding what’s actually causing it.
